Building works have started

Kirkwhelpington Memorial Hall celebrated its centenary last year and saw much effort going into the development of a plan to extend the hall, provide a “warm hub” for the local community and improve access and better facilities for the full-time Post office which operates from the hall.

It was decided that the best way to satisfy these  needs was to substantially enlarge the existing equipment store to accommodate all the items currently stored in the Post Office room as this would then enable the partitioning of this large room into a well-designed and modern Post office with an adjoining smaller room which would serve not only as a foyer during opening hours  abut also as a small meeting room/warm hub.

Phase I of the project is to create the enlarged equipment store and over the last 12 months much effort has been put into liaising with architects, securing planning permission and  fund raising. As well as  several events in the hall, we have been successful is securing grant money from the following sponsors to whom we are extremely grateful

  • Ray Wind Farm
  • Awards for All
  • Garfield Weston Foundation
  • EDF Green Rigg Wind Farm
  • Sir James Knott Trust
  • Community Chest
  • The Joicey Trust

We are delighted than building work has now started on site, and fund-raising is now under way for Stage 2 pf the Project
