On 21 January 2026 the Institute are having three trees removed in the garden, and some general cutting back and tidying work.
All of the trees in the Institute garden are self-seeded and have been left to mature over the years. Two sycamore trees have split trunks and have been reported as being weaker and may be unable to weather a large storm. We are having these trees removed, along with a laburnum tree which is growing into the railings.
The height of the trees overhanging Church Road will also be trimmed to ensure there is the required height for vehicles to pass under.
Traffic lights at the junction of Main Road and Church Road will be in place from 9.30am to 3.30pm to ensure the work can be carried out safely.
Once the work has been carried out and the garden allowed to settle, we will consider the best options for replacement of the trees.
The Institute will be open as usual on Wednesday 21 January but the garden will be closed all day. We apologise for any inconvenience.
If you are bringing a car to the Institute, please park away from the traffic lights, ideally in the car park next to the war memorial.
Thank you.
