Don’t we all love a list? The Memorial Hall Trustees do. In fact we have several and call them a Development Plan. And yes, it’s a list of lists! Keeping track of everything that needs to be done now and in the future is but one challenge. We have lists of key activities for Governance, Buildings, Bookings, Publicity, Fundraising, Community and Finance. Isn’t it satisfying when you can put a big tick next to something? Like this:
Financial Plan tick, Online bookings tick, Website tick, Legal Documentation tick, Fireproof oil tank tick, new cooker tick, clear lofts tick, store excess chairs tick, free wi-fi tick and more.
And then there’s the nasty sub-lists of less obvious things like key-safe boxes, door locks, inventories and yes, a letterbox! Fortunately we have some DIY ninjas on the Committee and these things just get done as if by magic!
Of course many of these things cost money and there are still some “big ticket” items to come like: replacing the big triangular windows which have rotted, table and chair trolleys to ease use, big TV screen for community events, meetings and mini conferences. As well as dealing with massive increases in oil and electricity costs.
So here’s another big tick, a thank you to all who helped raise funds, made donations or volunteered their time. The table top sellers, the quizzers, the Parish Councillors, the Village Show, the Quilters and ceilidh dancers [tick]. A special thanks also to the old and new users who clearly see our Hall as an ideal venue to enjoy as a regular group or for a one off party event.
Of course raising money also helps us to pay for free community activities like the new “Cuppa & Company” trial every other Tuesday morning. A cosy space for a chat with old and new friends. We even have games to play (not Monopoly!). Pop along and tell us what you think. We aim to do more like this and work with other local community providers.
As the year draws to a close our planning steps up a gear (more lists?). From broadening the services on offer to hirers to putting on regular fun events for our community. All while keeping the Hall clean, lit, heated and in good repair. Bring it on!
