Double jubilee tree.

GWVH has used some of the Queen's Jubilee grant money, and a donation from a parishioner, to plant a specimen "double jubilee" tree.  This is to celebrate both the Queen's platinum and the village hall's golden jubilee.  The tree is a Fagus sylvatica Dawyck.  It is a beautiful medium sized deciduous tree with a very columnar form.  It originated from the Dawyck Estate in Peeblesshire in the Borders; some may have visited Dawyck Botanic Gardens in the past.  We have planted the purple variety, which has a slightly narrower, less dense form.  Spring foliage is bright red, changing to purple in summer, and then brown in the autumn.  The site chosen allows the tree to be seen from the road as you approach the village hall, and from the hall without obstructing the view.
