The Torch Centre, Hexham

The Torch Centre in Hexham is a very unique place in its area! Established nearly forty years ago and built near the now demolished spinal unit of Hexham Hospital, it aimed to provide a centre where disabled people from across the area could come together to socialise and take part in competitive and recreational activities with similarly disabled people and abled bodied people as part of their integration into society. Although its user groups come from much wider backgrounds now, it still remains true to its core objective of providing a safe space for our more vulnerable members of our communities with weekly activities including discos and snooker nights. There are also a range of other groups who meet here regularly from energetic dance classes to pilates, painting and Tai Chi
