September 2023 Newsletter

It’s been a mixed summer weather-wise but I hope you’ve all enjoyed the late heatwave in early September, phew!

Here at the hall it’s been quieter than usual with many groups taking a summer break, we still had 168hrs of bookings in August and we have had special events such as parties and a graduation. We already have 314 hrs booked for September.

There have only been 15 days where the hall wasn’t used over the last year (not including bank holidays). The online booking system is working really well for all regular and one-time users.

We have also recently received some very good online reviews, we must be doing something right!
Regarding ongoing maintenance, steps and handrails have been installed under the stage to make access easier.
The oven ignition system in the cooker has been repaired, and a new Henry vacuum cleaner has been purchased.

We have recently installed a bookcase in the Jubilee Room with the intention of providing a ‘Little Library’ for hall users. Take a book or leave a book, simple as that!

We have recently welcomed Colin Mitchell from Stannington Bridge Club and Christine Scott from Stannington Women’s Institute onto the Board of Trustees. We are hoping for a representative from the Village School to join us.

In the winter months we will be introducing a ‘Warm Space’ Soup and Cake lunch, this will take place fortnightly and the dates for your diary are 6 th & 20th October, 3rd & 17th November and 1st and 15th December. Everyone is welcome to come along, have lunch and a chat, all we ask is a donation for what you think it’s worth, to cover food costs.

Malcolm and Christine Scott’s memorial dance made a lot of money for the ICU at Cramlington, quite a few of the Trustees supported Malcolm and Christine and had a great time, what a band and an incredible raffle! Well done to all concerned.

We are looking forward to the Village Show, the Halloween Dance with Marty Craggs’ Little Band Jam and the St Nicolas Fare in December, all details will be on the Village Hall website.
