The new roof/main hall refurbishment project is in it's early stages. The current roof over the wooden part of the hall is over 90 years old and is nearing the end of it's life. The roof leaks when the wind blows from the wrong direction, letting water through to the inside of the main hall.
The hall has been visited by Jake Delacey, Community Action Northumberland's (CAN) Community Buildings' Energy Adviser. Jake has produced a report for the hall that outlines recommendations for making the hall weather tight and more energy efficient. The halls' management group has also taken advice from a local builder as to how best to carry out these recommendations.
The roof will be replaced with a new metal roof and it will be insulated. The walls and floor of this part of the hall have very little insulation and the plan is to raise sufficient money to re-insulate these at the same time as work to the roof. Insulation will require the walls and floor to be removed/lifted and this will cost a significant amount of money.
Local community fundraising, along with some exisiting refurbishment money has brought the total raised to over £10,000. Whilst our community continues to raise money though local events, it is hoped that grants will be obtained to help the project to be completed soon.
